Our thanks go to Adrian and Jenny from Holland, Steen, Kasper, Sabine, Michael and Nina from Denmark and to Bill and the "BA Guys" for all their help and encouragement, especially to Terry for the video footage. We had over 200 Anglers staying here from U.K., Denmark, Holland and America. When all the numbers were added up we found that over 4,000 fish had been landed from our private swims on site, the biggest being 40 lbs.

2005 Fishing Report
My brother and I have fished the St. Lawrence on a number of occasions on the Canadian and American sides, but despite the pull of catching those immaculate hard fighting commons, another location had caught our eye whilst searching for other venues on that river system. It was the Canadian Trent Severn system, reputed to contain " wild commons and a high percentage of mirrors", which immediately caught my attention so to speak.
We looked for a place we could use as a base, and also somewhere that could supply us with descent bait of quality and quantity. After emails and phone calls we decided to give Trevor and Judith Holloway a go at Lakeview cottages near Lakefield Ontario, and what a choice this turned out to be. The cottages are right on the side of the lake. You just fall out of bed and fish, well o.k. this might be an exaggeration, it is one rod length from your front door to the edge of the lake and the first swim, which by the way produced over 150 fish, mirrors and commons most of them over twenty pounds.
This venue was chosen because it has a dam on it giving oxygen and flowing water, and with our experiences of fishing the St. Lawrence at various times of the year in late July and with soaring temperatures the fish should be found in the quicker more oxygenated water. Well all didn't go according to plan I rang Trevor two weeks before we where due to fly out to see if he had managed to get the boilies I had asked for and he had, in this case it was 60 kilos. of Richworth yellow pineapple boilies, he told me the usually hot Canadian summer still hadn't arrived, in fact it was raining hard and there was a lot of extra water going through the dams, which had caused terrible flooding, in one of the major towns down river. But not to worry, as we would still catch plenty of fish. We arrived a day early to take advantage of a cheaper flight and after driving from Toronto we finally met Trevor and Judith for the first time.
Trevor eagerly showed us the boilies, which even through the packaging had filled the reception with the aroma of pineapple. By the way Trevor had told us "you really don't need boilies to catch the carp" and for the first time on any of our trips I could see why you really didn't need boilies, for his corn, which he supplies, is cooked and has other little goodies thrown in. No joke I threw a bucketful in the margins and watched at least forty carp move in on it and devour the lot in less than ten minutes and this would happen time and time again. Trevor took us around the swims on his property and the last swim opens up into a very large bay. This we thought would be a good place to start as the river was still running through the lakes at a quick pace.
The first day produced a lot of fish to the corn being used by my brother Kim but I stuck it out on the boilies and didn't get the first run till later in the day and what a run, slamming the rod down to the lake surface. The fight was hard and dogged and after fifteen minutes the carp came to the net I couldn't believe it, it was only a high double, these fish pound for pound fight unbelievably hard the larger fish liking to hug the contours of the bottom and going on blistering runs, the more bait we put in the more we caught whether it be on the boilies or corn it really didn't matter and in the length of our two week stay, which incidentally we took in sightseeing and only fished in daylight hours, we lost count at over 450 fish the best common going 34 lbs. and the best mirror going 25lbs. And don't forget this catch was taken with the river out of sorts and pushing through.
This place is for some reason very special as it seems to attract thousands of fish, even the locals comment on it and first thing in the morning you are treated to the 'carp show' with more carp than I have ever seen leaping out of the water a sight not to be missed. Our hosts worked tirelessly to keep us supplied with great smelling cooked corn and Trevor takes it to heart if you are not catching and enjoying yourself and when we said our good-byes to return home he said I just wished you where here when the river conditions where right as we might have seen some of these on the bank producing an album of photos which contained pictures of guests with 40lbs+ commons and mirrors to 35 lbs+ What a way to wet an appetite for more.
I know we are making arrangements to go back and next time I won’t need to take my tackle as Trevor has got plenty of Shimano gear.
